Withdrawing from Lorazepam

[Th...]

Recommended Posts

I have been on Lorazepam for a little over three months now.  I was originally prescribed it because I was going through a period of extreme anxiety.  Now that the period had passed, I decided to go down on Lorazepam only to find difficulty doing so.  I was taking about 1.5 mg a day before and started to notice symptoms when I got below 1mg.  Now I have been taking 0.5mg for the last few days and have been feeling really awful.  I have noticed a lot of anxiety has returned and I have been feeling really tired and sore.  If I don't start feeling better in a few days, I'm going to call my psychiatrist and see about a formal taper plan.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Shadow.

Sounds like you may have tapered a bit fast and that's why you're feeling some symptoms.  If this is your first taper from a benzodiazepine, I'm going to guess you'll probably start feeling better in a couple of days if you hold at .5 for now.  Once you're feeling better, I would begin to taper again but only a small cut next time...about .0625mg or .125mg and not more than that in one cut.

Here's a link to Withdrawal & Recovery Support where you might want to start posting questions to the membership.

You may want to read up on benzodiazepine use and withdrawal in the Ashton Manual  if you're not already familiar with it.

Please include your benzodizepine information in your posts.  To make that easier by adding it to each post automatically, you can go up to Profile, choose Forum Profile, write the information in the text box and click Change Profile.

Take care,

Challis
