How much and how fast should I taper from long term use of 2mg valium?

Hi guys, I have been taking 2mg of valium for quite a while and need to get off of this drug due to significant tolerance withdrawal symptoms. What cuts should I make and how quickly so as not to make me vulnerable to severe adverse reactions and symptoms.

Thanks

A conservative taper would be something like 5% cuts every 2 weeks.  fwiw - there's no guarantee that you'll have no symptoms or even that you'll have no strong symptoms.  Everybody is different and it's impossible to know with certainty.  I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hi,

There is a Valium/ diazepam support group which is great. You might want to drop by there.

Everybody not he same benzo and lots of experiences to share.

Ashton manual reommends 5-10% every two weeks or so. But 10% is waaaay more than I can handle.

Everyone reacts differently.

I would try a very conservative cut and see how you do after two weeks. Due to the long acting properties of Valium, you might now feel the cut till well after 5 days or longer. Also different for everyone. I used to get hit most after day 7 or 8.

Good luck,

Moo

I would suggest you consider a daily taper, seeing as you are on a very low dose. If you decide to follow a cut and hold taper, try to cut that smallest amount you can.

I'll reinforce the last post.  A daily taper will be more gentle, but even if you don't do a daily taper cutting smaller and more frequently is better than larger and less frequent.  And it is not slower.  The notion that bigger means faster is not true.  But it is more uncomfortable.
