Help for a buddie, taper from 2mg ativan via crossover to v.

Posting for a buddie who has his hands full with a family health crisis. He is on 2 mg of ativan, dosed 1 mg at 11am and  1mg 11pm. He has a valium script for 5 mg, but will of course need some 2mg to taper. I'm thinking it's a bad idea to add a third dose just to find a sample schedule in The ashton manual, but that a move to 10 and 10 mg valium at 11am and 11pm should work, with a slow taper from there, eliminating the morning dose first? I know some will suggest adding a third dose, but I wonder if that won't just make the taper harder by adding in the long run.  If he doesn't stabilize on the two doses, then maybe try adding a third?

Maybe start with 0.5 cuts every two to three weeks?

Thanks, JS.

Hi jack ( ha,that sounds funny),

Well, I don't see why he could not stay on two doses.

Even during a cross over.

Some people even dose once a day.

But the Ativan withdrawal might be very unpleasant at first and the Valium will need a few weeks to fully build up in the liver to cover Wd xs from Ativan.

So, if your friend is experiencing intolerable xs between the two doses, I would then try to take three doses a day.

I would start with replacing the evening dose first. Valium I sedating for the first two weeks or so, for most people.

Is he going to do a slow cross over, or more rapid? Taking 0.5 at night with 5 Valium.

Then doing the same, after a while , with the morning dose,

Then all Valium at night, hold and then all Valium?

After crossing over completely, it would be wise to hold for a few weeks and then start a conservative first cut and see what it feels, like after two weeks or so.

For me, a dry cut of 9.5 was too much. But I'm okay with a daily taper.

Others are fine on 0.5 every two to three weeks.

It's a trial an error thing but a small cut for the first one, would be best IMO.

Hope that helps.

Or maybe drop by the Valium support group for more input
