TERRIBLE WAVE 7.5 MONTHS OUT.. PLEASE HELP

[ON...]

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, im 7.5 months out a c/t off of Klonopin and was doing alright until last night I played some poker and lost a couple 100 dollars and while playing I got heart palpitations and felt tingling in hands. I also got extreme burning sensation in the middle of my head and a feeling of complete terror last night where I thought I was dying. My heart rate was extremely slow it seemed. This whole day I've felt extremely depressed and suicidal, I cant even put into words the sensations I've felt as well, it feels like im back at acute. Any inspiration or experiences with this far out and having symptoms come back that you experienced in acute would be awesome. I am 21 years old and am desperate for help right now. Thank you and love you all!

Also, I thought about calling an ambulance because I felt like I was dying but I didnt even know what I would tell them was wrong with me, my mind was just blank, shut off, and full of complete terror and fear

Hi,

You had a panic attack, possibly more than one.  The symptoms you mention are all common panic symptoms. This can happen in withdrawal, even as far out as you are.  I know exactly how they feel, I've had many during my long life.  Was this your first PA?  It sounds like it might have been.  Unfortunately, if you go to the  emergency room, they'll probably tell you it was "just" a panic attack, and try to give you benzos.  That's the standard treatment.....

I would try to take it easy for awhile (no more high stakes poker games) and your anxiety level will go down.  Distract yourself with whatever gets your mind off your symptoms, and things will get better as time goes by.

I've had panic attacks before, this seemed more like it was just my nervous system overstimulated when I was playing poker but then the feeling that I had at night was as if they're was fire in my head and my brain shutoff and filled up woth sheer terror (bad acid trip) and so it might have been a panic attack at first but do you think that caused the lingering symptoms that I haven't had since acute to come back?

It probably did cause some of the symptoms to come back, that's what can happen in a "wave," but it's temporary and hopefully you'll feel better soon.

In my sixth month out and things are only getting worse. Waves getting much longer and more intense.

I have the same symptoms you're describing right now, and many many more.

OneDay....so sorry that happened to you. I got my first head s/x at month 6...exactly as you describe...all of a sudden...out of the blue my head was full of tight heavy pressure...back of my neck too..also the burning. I was sure I was having s stroke. I was at my grandson 's spring program and made it through the program in complete terror. The next morning when the pressure and burning was still there I had a panic attack ( absolute terror...b/p 190/ 90...total ' out of body' dissociation...total feeling that a health crisis was imminent) ...my friend took me to er....panic attack. The head pressure has continued over the last 3 months and is now lessening. I have become used to the awful head s/x ( pressure...zaps,  burning,  headache and buzzing). They still scare me but I don't panic anymore...close sometimes. The head s/x are common....scary but common. I had my worst wave since acute in month 9.5. Freaked me out because I was so far out and had been doing well for a few weeks in a row. A few out of the blue brutal waves late in year one also seems to be common. You describe it perfectly...exactly like acute again. There is a support group on the support group board for " head pressure "...look for " Support for those with head pressure " it is sn active group with a lot of support and nice BBs.

.....If you are worried by all means see your doctor if for no other reason than to be reassured so the next time the ' burning brain ' hits you can know that it is w/d...If you go to er during a panic attack ( we have all been there...I have been twice) you can always tell them that you are w/ding from benzos and refuse the er benzos...they can give you other meds for your panic. I was prescribed propanolol ( b/p med) to take in emergency panic. It is a b/p med that can be taken ' as needed ' I carry one with me. It is not a benzo.

.....The head pressure and panics will end...truly bad ass s/x...Watch your stress and go easy for a few more months until you feel more reliable in your progress....wishing you peace from the head stuff....coop

Thanks for the responses guys! Its good to know im not alone, the other persistent symptom I've had since day 1 is air hunger so that adds to the fear with all the other symptoms!! I've also heard some people say that after horrible waves there is great windows, is that true? Do big waves mean a lot of healing?

Hey one I had this same stuff at the start if six when ibgit slammed..the being calm and then just feelingbblank and dread or fear like your gonna die. And I freaked out. It may not nessecarily be a panic attack although I think it pry was. But the WD mimicking this. Its very bizarre..either way my cycles of this are fading at almost 8.5 months it will get better just another round of healing as your brain heads toward the light.

It seems that anything that pops dopamine can do this, chemical or not. It sucks to have to avoid stimulation, but oh well..

I agree I think anything that stimulates me a lot sends me back in a wave. Itsmylife do you think theres great healong after times of bad waves like these? And are head symptoms common to get later in withdrawal and then being healed shortly after? Thanks for the responses!!

Hey oneday..I do notice to seem a leap in healing after these intense waves with the head stuff..an improvement definitely in baseline atleast. The problem is that its short lived and more waves just keep coming to endure so its hard to notice when your stuck in between all the time. I do think its normal as far out as we are and much farther. I'm not sure though about being healed shortly after them though..but they say you endure some really nasty waves like that near the end before you finally do heal..but I think that will be a ways to go yet ya know..but ya never know!

Itsmylife thanks for the response, thats the same information I've gathered from looking at others stories lets hope we heal soon! What exactly does baseline mean??

Sure one day baseline is how you mostly feel on average when your not in a huge wave or a bright clear nice window..the in between of how your mostly feeling before achieving more windows and how you will one day be in your future.

It has..unfortunately the waves are long as in a whole day sometimes but so are the windows. Bit some days are partial windows and waves and heartache all in the same day..some are OK ..and sometimes I get a stretch my last stretch of really good windows lasted three days in a row in months 6till now 8.5 and I'd like them to come back and get longer. :(

I had the exact same thing happen to me 2 or 3 nights ago. I was watching a movie and it just hit me out of the blue. Scared the hell out of me, thought I was having a heart attack. It was a panic attack without the panic.

Yeah im in the same boat as you, its very day to day basis for me and hour to hour switching back and forth from really good to really bad to good to bad to average

It has nothing to do with popping' dopamine. Although dopamine does recoupe as a main chemical of pleasure and reward centering that does recoupe and regulate in WD as well as serotonin which regulates our mood. Its more of the non linear healing which we cannot comprehend.
