in need of tapering advice

I've taken plenty of benzos over the last 10 years or so, mostly when coming down from stims back when i used to party hard, and I never really noticed any dependence on them. But for the past few months, since discovering the world of IOP's, I've been taking valium and xanax daily and steadily increasing my dose (started 3+ months ago at 10mg diaz per day, currently averaging about 30mg diaz + 2 mg alpraz per day). I've taken roughly 120x10mg diaz, 60x1mg aplraz, & 10x10mg zolpidem in the past few months. Last night i took way more than intended, and I had an awful time. I have a limited amount of these pills left, no medical insurance, and need to figure out a safe way to taper. hope your forums can help. thanks.

Hello Crow t Robot,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

We're happy to have you join us.  Our member's will be happy to support you as you taper off of the benzos you are using.  You can do this!  Hang in there.

You can post a topic about your taper on our General Taper Plans Board.  The second pink-highlighted post explains the three accepted taper methods.  Also:

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

Members discuss their symptoms on Withdrawal Support (during your taper).

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Welcome to the board!

Welcome  :)  You are currently on some pretty high doses. I think that to minimize your withdrawal symptoms you need to do a careful taper. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. Stopping too rapidly or abrubtly can cause some pretty horrific symptoms. If you get a chance check out the Ashton Manual . Juliea sent you a link. It will give you a much better understanding on benzodiazepines and how they affect the central nervous system. Again, welcome. It is always nice to get a new member. I look forward to your future posts.

thanks for the replies. I read through [part of] the Ashton manual, and sadly don't have enough meds for a proper taper. I created a signature and a more detailed post in the "taper plans" board. And, Rayman1968, iop = international online pharmacy. You should check out rifftrax if you liked mst3k.
