Would like to withdraw from Ambien

I have been taking ambien 10 mgm nightly for over 10 years.  I feel high degree of dependence and as I turn 80 in a few months would like to fine a safe and successful way to taper the medication.  I've tried some little tapers was not successful.  I see my PCP next week and hope he will support an appointment to the sleep clinic which can support and also help with a taper program.

Hi. I am so glad you found us. Z drugs have many similarities to benzodiazepines. You have been on them for many years so in my opinion a slow taper will help minimize symptoms. I am going to give you a link to our Zdrug withdrawal support board.

 

In addition you might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  I think that reading it will be very helpful.
