I'm hooked-I need to get off- I'm not sure I can do it now

A few years ago, my physician started me on Xanax to go along with my depression med. When I changed physicians the new physician changed me over to Ativan. I am on 0.05mg 3 times a day. Two things have happened recently that make we want to get off the "Z":

1. If I accidentally miss a dose the withdrawal symptoms start and they are horrible (terrible nightmares last night).

2. An article in the local newspaper about Benzo withdrawal scared the **** out of me.

I'm hooked-I need to get off- but I'm not sure I can do it now.

Hi thegoodguy

Welcome to benzobuddies,  you will get plenty of support here. Sounds like you are experiencing interdose withdrawal. You can do this, don’t be scared,  Have you read the Ashton Manual, I will put a link here for you: “Professor Ashtons Manual” It is an authoritative resource on benzodiazepines and how to withdraw.

The general rule of thumb is to reduce between 5/10% every 10/14 days. feel free to check out the forum and post to any of the dedicated boards, you'll find a great community of people who are here to support and encourage you.

Here are a few useful links:

General Taper Plans

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to”Create a signature”

If you have any questions, let us know.

Welcome Aboard

Hi Goodguy-

Welcome.  You'll find folks very helpful here.  I'm curious about the article you read in a local paper.  Which article was it?  Do you have a link?

You have come to the right place. There is a learning curve for people beginning withdrawal (WD) and this is the place to get information, first hand experience and answers to your questions.  :)
