Hi guys

So my gums have been an ongoing issue for me. A lot of pain and bleeding. I started seeing a periodontist last month. Today he did a full exam with X-rays. My pockets in the front teeth are 2 and 3 back molars between 5 and 6. I have no loose teeth or bone loss. Here is my question: should I pay the $900 for the root planing and scaling procedure ? I did not have gum disease back in March 2014 because I was always at the dentist.

Should I just wait to see if these heal? The doctor today told me it is very mild gum disease at best.

Hi, as I remember we've talked about this before, but I'll remind you about what happened in my case:

My gums were alright, although I had a tendency towards gum inflammation and a lot of tartar.  I had the "pockets" measured three times a year, and suddenly when I was several months off benzos my pockets got much deeper.  Oral surgery was discussed.  But when I went back four months later, they measured them again and my pockets had returned to normal!  I can only assume it was withdrawal-induced, because it healed once I was past acute withdrawal.  If I were you I'd wait until my next scheduled visit to the dentist and get the pockets measured again before making any decisions about root planing.....

You might want to try oil pulling with coconut oil (organic). You swish the oil in your mouth for several

minutes and spit out. It reputedly has antimicrobal properties.

Agree, it's helped me signficantly.  Also use a bit of baking soda on your toothbrush, or charcoal powder.  It pulls all bacteria out of mouth, gums, teeth.  I had a couple bad teeth that hurt doing W/D, now they don't since I started my protocol again.

I had tooth aches.  Went to the dentist who found no issues.  Luckily, I read that these are common side effects.  I began a suggested supplement and by second day, ache was gone.  I have read some have had teeth pulled unnecessarily.  I would expect this is drug related.

Thanks everyone, this gum issue is a nightmare. Somedays I floss and they bleed very badly. Doctor told me that from one visit to the next my gums look different. I'm going to try the oil pulling. I don't think I can handle a painful procedure right now.

I've found through W/D that the smallest issues we have are inflamed.  My teeth hurt, one day 2 of them, another day a different one.  My gums were inflamed as well.  Not just gums, but lymph node under right arm would hurt, then ear itching or pain.  This stuff is crazy, it exposes the smallest things wrong with us.  Freaked me out a bit, felt like a werewolf.  :idiot:

I floxed back in Jan, after my doc put me on antibiotics for an ear infection, then had an abscessed molar, the pain was incredible.  Dentist put me on 2 different types of antibiotics, and I floxed even worse.  Ended up with root canal on tooth, it got even more inflamed from nerves.  Had it pulled, mega pain, even a month later.  So know that it's W/D, your gums will settle down.  My hubs had the tooth planing done, now he knows to use baking soda, and has no problems. I use reach dental floss, any other kind doesn't get my teeth cleaned.  Hope this helps, MG50

Yes, I feel that pain is so much worse during withdrawal. I had a root canal in February during my taper and all of my neck glands were swollen and the pain was agonizing. Having my teeth cleaned was so painful. I think our nerves are shot during this process. I don't know what it is with my mouth and gums but that has been an area with so many issues for me.

Me too, the mouth pain was the worst, now I'm over that at 85 days except some sensitivity.  When I quit brushing with baking soda they started back up again.  weird.  Not going to stop brushing with it now......

I had a lot of problems with pain in my gums and teeth (sharp tooth pain) during tapering and acute. I bought a really good water pik, and I started using it every day. Even though I still had problems for awhile, I was noticing the other day that the pain has gone away for the most part. As Megan said, it's withdrawal-induced.

I just had the same news from the dentist.  :-\ I am going to a deep cleaning where they do your mouth in quads. I am also going to rinse with warm salt water a few times a day to tighten the pockets. My pockets were mostly 4's and 5's. Hopefully with the deep cleaning and salt water rinse I can turn my mouth health around.

I floss daily and somedays I actually cry because it hurts so bad. I avoid eating because my gums are so sensitive and there does not seem to be a cause for the pain I have....

I think I will look into a deep cleaning as opposed to the root scaling and planning. I just swished with coconut Oil and did have a soothing affect.
