Hello Southie, and welcome to our forum.  Benzodiazepines can have some very negative effects--perhaps the main one is tolerance and tolerance withdrawal, which basically means that one's prescribed dose doesn't work after awhile and has to be increased to get the same effect.  This happens to many of us longer term users.  Also, benzos do change your brain and body chemistry while you're on them, making the withdrawal from them very difficult and very long for many.  I'd suggest you read "The Ashton Manual" for more information:

 

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

 

Also, please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.
