Recovering benzo addict

[Mo...]

Recommended Posts

Hi, I sought help through rehab approx. 80 days ago for a 6 year benzodiazepene addiction, leaving at a habit of 10mgs a day. I am now a recovering addict seeking advice on how to cope with PAWS (post-acute withdrawal syndrome) along with offering those who are suffering through withrawals hope and advice on getting through this terrible experience. I look forward to be an active contributor to this kessage board. Thanks!!

Hello Mouse1337,

I too would like to welcome you to the forum  :)

Congratulations on being benzo free!

Detox or cold turkey can be a very rough way to withdraw from benzos, a slow taper is generally the way to go so that symptoms will be kept to a minimum but you will make a full recovery with time that's for sure. You have probably experienced the acute phase of withdrawal which often happens in very early recovery, this is when symptoms are at their strongest. The strong symptoms will ease but it can take a while for the central nervous system to fully heal. Do take a look at the link Claudia has mentioned to you. It's a link to a post written by one of the members here and it gives a good explanation of exactly what is involved with a full recovery after long term benzo use and why it can take many months for some.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Debbie
