Lyrica to come off benzos

[Ro...]

Has anyone healed from wd using Lyrica. I am considering it after taking 150 Mgs and finding it helps a bit. I know it is a rough taper to get off Lyrica but is it possible to heal from benzos while on lyrica?

I am 17 months off and I had enough,

Thanks, Robb

Hi Robb

Idk about that. I used to be on Lyrica prior to benzos and did a C/T without knowing there could be a withdrawl . I suffered with physical sxs and numbness to my hands and a ton of pain . I would hate to see you have to go through any more withdrawld or even have this mess with your Gabba and throw you into hell again.

Ive been healed almost 3 years now and I still wont take anything other then antibiotics when needed and have taken pain meds for kidney infection. Thank God Im ok with those,

I hope your ok and whatever you decide works for you :)

Hi Robb,

I was given a massive dose of Lyrica while in detox and can say it helped with the detox and pain.  I was on it around 10 days and had a hideous withdrawal from it.  It feels very similar to benzos!

I would not recommend starting it at such a late time in your healing.

Thanks for the responses. I took 150 MGs of Lyrica the other night and it worked very well but the following day I was extremely sick with sxs and I can't figure out if it was a wave or if it was from wd from Lyrica for just one day. I got benefit while I took the dose though.

As I said it works similar to benzos, the Dr who prescribed it to me explained that in detail.

The wave would have been a withdrawal!!!

Your choice but I wouldnt be messing around with it!!!!

I appreciate your input but to say the wave would have been a wd has no basis since there would be no way to tell the difference.

Much appreciated though.

Hi Robb

You have come such a long way, I know its been an awful journey for you.  If I were you I would try and hold on a little longer if you can before deciding on the Lyrica.  These meds might make you feel better for a short while, you then have another med that will need tapering off...just think about it carefully first.

Hang in Robb

I understand MG. Thanks for the input! =) xx I decided to resist unless things really get hairy. I tried one dose and it made me high and anxiety free but the next day I was awful and scared to death. I am going to try to refrain. I am not sure if it was a wave or the wd from benzos or a compounded mini wd + benzo wd mix. Anyway, except for extreme emergencies I will not take it again. I am alone and can't function  for long periods of time so I may be forced to in order to take better care of myself.

Hey thanks, Magrita, I will attempt to refrain! Wise words. Too many horror stories out there. xx

My psychiatrist said Lyrica is a first cousin to benzos so not to take it for any reasons. It is also highly addictive and not easy to get off.

I always felt high as a kite on it so I never took it as I was afraid to drive or do anything except sleep on it. It was prescribed for fibromyalgia and while I still have pain, I don't think it is fibromyalgia now but related to long term benzo use. I hope it will lessen with reduction of benzo.

Please don't take lyrica, it is not a good substitute.

I probably should have changed the title to "Using Lyrica for wd at 17 months off (PRN)". I took a single dose and felt relief but by no means do I want on get hooked to this crap.

They diagnosed me with fibro too and I know damn well it's the drugs. Doctors are clueless schucks that know zero about what the drugs do to ppl. Shame

Thanks for all the nice responses! =)

I have no experience with lyrica vs. benzo withdrawal,

but I just wanted to add my 0.2 cents since the warnings about lyrica in this thread make it seem like a drug from hell.

i've been taking it two years (not taking it anymore now that i'm tapering- can't afford it) and it was extremely good for me. it enhanced my mood a bit, gave me energy, took the fibro away (btw I also think that fibro in our cases is benzo-dependant).

Coming down was no problem AT ALL. Absolutely no side effects. In the beginning I felt like I'm tipsy for about three days, and that was all.

I just need to give some credit where credit is due.

I wish someone knew if it helps with benzo w/d. If it were the case, I'd scrape all my money together and get back on lyrica in a blink

i have never taken lyrica but i have/am taking gabapentin during my valium taper. gabapentin most certainly has helped with withdrawal symptoms. it doesn't remove them entirely but it does lessen their severity, imo. the only problem is the rapid tolerance to the med. and not everyone has a problem coming off gabapentin if done correctly. the only reason i am tapering it now is so when and if my valium taper becomes extremely bothersome, a good hit of gabapentin every now and then will come in very handy...

Interesting comments. Thanks. I have decided to use Lyrica sparingly. The first time I tried it I was high and felt decent. The second time I barely even felt it but I will continue to use it as PRN.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I've been on pregabalin for almost 2 years and the entire time that I was addicted to temazepam. I can't say how much it has helped since the two were used together but I tapered off temazepam in 2 months with little to no anxiety. The only benzo withdrawal  I'm mainly experiencing is physical symptoms such as  muscle stiffness and joint pain.

I took Lyrica and clonazepam together for well over 10 years. I have just about finished tapering from clonazepam and have been Lyrica free for 45 days. I experienced/am experiencing the whole protracted withdrawal syndrome. The withdrawal symptoms are all on the same pages in the Ashton manual, but Lyrica withdrawal had its own distinct withdrawal problems. It was so bad I can't describe the year of hell tapering from it. Makes tapering from clonazepam easy. I would not advise anyone to take Lyrica. It does work but it is too hard to get off it.

It is tough...I agree. Please think about it...even sparingly.
