My name is Dustin and I am looking desperately for help with a large benzo addiction. I am currently on 20mg of xanax a day just to act normal, anything less I start feeling withdrawl. I have tried switching to clonazepam and valium to titrate myself but only end up adding them to my addiction. Im fed up now, and there is no option but to stop. I get my medication overseas, I have access to all the pills that I want and thats what put me in this predicament. Please help me, I just want a taper schedule, I don't care about anything else right now but starting to get off of benzos.

Hi dsms :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

20 mg of Xanax is an extremely large dose of benzodiazepines to be on. It is a dangerous amount. Xanax is an very potent drug. It is 10 times stronger than valium, and as you know it is very addicting. Tapering from this amount should only be done under the supervision of a doctor. Do not attempt to do this without a doctor.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms,.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Hi, benzos are tough. I'm tapering off of Clonazepam now and it's not easy. I've almost lost my job 4 of the 5 days this week. anxiety and insomnia and oh the list goes on but somehow I manage. I'm actually only 4 days in and I love this site. these are truly your new buddies and will help you. I thought staying on my high dose of adderral during this tapering would help. actually, I was told by a benzobuddy that I would probably find myself stop taking it once I started tapering. today was the first day I decided to only take 15mg opposed to 90mg and I can't even begin to tell you how great I felt today. point of this, I'm glad you found us all here - and I know you will get the support you need. listen to your body and mind and take it slow. lastly, welcome, and the best of luck to you getting off the benzo poison : )

I know I should be doing this under the supervision of a doctor. I got stuck into the India scene where buying pills were as easy as clicking a couple buttons and paying for them. Thing is I am a veteran, Iraq, I am 100% service connected so I have that route to go. I am affraid of what they will do or what process they will do to take me down off of my dose. currently I am trying the 1mg of zanax to one 10 mg of valium, now logic says at the end I would be tapering off of 200mg of valium a day with decreasing 10mg a week which makes my taper a very long taper. I am currently enrolled in school and am getting a hosuing allowance from the VA that we are counting on for the next 3 months. I figure I follow this regime until the first of the year and then I re-evaluate my situation.

I literally can take 20mg of xanax and act completely normal with 0 side effects, no slurred speech, no balance issues or drowsiness. It's very scary that I put myself in this position. I checked into the alternate treatment at the Coleman institute and from reading the horror stories from the other threads I know a quick fix isn't going to work. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of detox they would do in-patient or out-patient if I were to seek treatment? I am affraid they will do an accelerated detox to get me into their drug abuse substance program like they did before when I was on 4mg of klonopin back in 2010, which I remember the panic attacks with PAWS and I can't imagine what I am going to go through with this. The only thng I have on my side is that for 7 months I was maybe on 6mg of xanax a day and the last 5 months I rapidly built tolerance to zanax because of the lack of control on my part and a never ending supply of pills.

I would like anyone's input that has experience with high dose benzo titration, I have no choice at the moment to either maintain for 3-4 months or to start the valium titration.

Thank you guys for your input already, I'm scared, affraid, I don't think I even have the words to describe how I feel about the road downhill. I have extreme PTSD and anxiety combined with major depression. I have already been into a in-patient program which was concurrent acute psychiatric ward where they did a 3 day titration from 4 mg of klonopin to get me into a substance abuse program where I spent 48 days (28 day program) waiting for a bed to open up in the inpatient PTSD unit in New York at montrose VA. I have read the ashton manual and believe that is our bible for this, I will try to find nfo inside on high dose benzos.

Please pass this along to friends on the board if you know they have experience with this, I am asking for your help that fit my perimeters, full titration schedule and if I can't handle it I will go in-patient but I would like to know what they will do to get me off safely and how much pain they are going to do to me, I don't trust the doctors from the VA because of my last experience.

Thanks guys, gals... I'm glad to finally be here and say enough is enough.
