i just saw this mentioned again.  i wanted to see what people think of this?  i thought this was like a benzo, no?  thanks.

It's an anti-histamine and my benzo-wise doc prescribed it to me.  It works ok for sleep.  I only take half of the 25mg capsule for sleep sometimes.  It doesn't affect the GABA receptors.

I am taking 25 mg. , 3 times a day.  It helps ease the intense symptoms a little, mostly by making me drowsy.

I take between 25 - 75 mg at night. It wears off its relaxing effect if you use it very often but it is great drug for me. Please evaluate the risk of using this drugs as it can produce TD in the long run.

I keep Vistaril on hand for really bad panic attacks - it is like Benedryl so it makes me a little sleepy. It is a medication and I am not fond of meds, but it helps during the really bad moments.

I take 50mg at bedtime.  Earlier in w/d it didn't work for me, but is now.  Doesn't make me drowsy, but I had a head injury and it takes a lot to make me sleepy.  It's non-addictive, and I don't mind taking it.

There are two drugs in this category (Vistaril & Atarax) They are both anti-histamines...Neither is a Benzo!

 

My doc & pharmacist suggested Atarax over the Vistaril because it has a better sleep component for those nights when insomnia is knocking at my door.

 

I am very sensitive to medications!!!!!  I can't stress this strongly enough.  I took a leap of faith and tried the Atarax, and it helped tremendously.  I take it about 8p.m. and than take my taper dose at 10p.m. and in about 30 min I'm sleeping, and will usually sleep till about 7a.m., and wake without a drug hangover.  It have been really helpful for me.

(EDIT) Let me say that I only take it on rare occasions. It was prescribed to me 4 months ago, and I have taken it about 5 times...as, I do not want it to lose it's affect. FB
