When does the shaking stop?

A cold turkey can bring on some pretty horrible withdrawals, especially when a large dose is stopped. The acute phase of withdrawal is by far the worst. Mine lasted about 5 or 6 weeks. The symptoms you describe as unpleasant as they are are classic symptoms of withdrawal. It is hard to say how long they will last. We all heal at different speeds. The one thing I do know is that they are only temporary and in time will pass.

I agree with benzocruel. You are still in the acute phase. I am so sorry you're going through this! I did, too, but off a higher dose of Klonapin plus three other drugs.

There is no timeframe for withdrawal; each person is unique in this. Acute usually lasts up to 5 weeks. This is when your worst symptoms will happen. But its possible you will feel bad for some time to come.

My best advice to you is:

1. Use distraction to keep your mind occupied. Keeping busy helps your brain, your mind, and your body.

2. East as healthy as you can. Drink normal amounts of fluids, more if you are sweating.

3. Avoid stress, if you can

4. Avoid alcohol

5. Be careful with supplements, vitamins and over the counter medications.

6. When anxiety gets bad, trying deep breathing. There are several ways to do it....I use a slow deep breath in on a count to five, then a slow exhale. Make sure your belly is rising with each breath in. Doing this helps to calm you down...it works!

7. Don't read scary posts here or anywhere....you are too fragile right now. Stick to positive, hopeful posts, Success Stories.

8. If insomnia is a problem, as it is for many of us, try the "Sleep Hypnosis  Videos" on YouTube. I use Jodi Whitely's but theres others.

9. Read the Ashton Manual, and listen to Bliss John's inspiring videos.

10. Start reading some things about what is causing your symptoms - the parts of your Central Nervous System that are temporarily damaged. There are several great posts about this on this forum.

11. Begin to accept that this is temporary only: you will heal from it and return to your previous life.

If you need any help using this forum just tell us! Its a bit confusing at first.

Hi helpmom I am 6 mos out the shaking just recently stopped. Not trying to scare you, with that, like benzocruel says we all heal in our own time. Peace to you, and good luck to you my friend :):smitten: Diane

Thanks for your reply, at least I know now that it is normal this long after, constant shaking and trembling 24/7.  Is there anything that can help minimize this?  Any opinions would be so helpful, thanks all.

I take dicyclomine (bentyl) for my ibs which is not addictive and does not interact with benzo wd. It stops pain associated with my IBS it also stops the twitching i get from WD maybe it will work for the trembling?

Thanks so much for your help, I will definitely look into that.

It is prescription only though hope it helps you if you can get it. It's a fairly cheap med to if you don't have insurance I believe.

not trying to be funny I do not know when its going to stop but the answer is when it feels like it

this is totally out of our control

I had some sever symptoms just drop off and never returned

I had some minor sx gotten worse and stuck around for a while

its weird

but the important thing is remember doctors did this to you and never forget it
