High Heart Rate

Recommended Posts

I have not made my signature yet, so I will let everyone know that I was taking 2 1/2 mg of klonopin for seven years with a break at year three.  No withdrawals.  Reinstated because of a wicked panic attack many months later.  Well, I am withdrawing now, and I went from .5mg to 0.  At the end of the third day, I got the worst inflammation of my stomach and intestines.  In addition, my heart rate went to 110 bpm.  Well, I took 1mg of Klonopin every three hours till I hit 4mg thinking this would reverse my problems.  There has been no further inflammation, but I am still recovering from the inflammation that did occur.  This is the funny part....  my heart rate is still around 90 to 110.  I continued back at .5mg per day, but my heart rate is still up.  Is this to be expected with what I did above and withdrawals in general.  How long can heart rate stay high?  Is it dangerous?  I can function now, but what a terrible deal that was.  I expected discomfort, but not extreme gastro pain accompanied with a high heart rate.  Funny thing was that I had no anxiety throughout all of this.

Is the high heart rate normal during withdrawals?

Normal heart rate is 60-100, so you're just above that.  My heart rate was high during w/d and many other people experience the same thing.  Mine went back to 72 or so after the taper was done.

Yours may stay up for a few more days til the K kicks completely in.

I went to an urgent care and mentioned I had chest and abdominal pain from benzo withdrawal.  They gave me the boot to the ER since I said chest pain.  It was honestly just from the gastro issues, but chest pain and 100+ heart rate is an automatic trip to the ER.  I am 5'9" 195 in great health.  The PA asked if I needed an ambulance, and I said no because I just had an EKG at my last physical.  I told her it was from the benzo withdrawal.  I was hoping to get something for nausea from the doctor.  They were very nice, but I got the boot.  I just came home.  My heart rate is a little lower now.

Is the benzo bloat painful like I experienced?  If this is one of my withdrawals, is there a food list for benzo bloat that helps minimize it?  I feel blessed to not have the fear and panic thus far (although I have had so many panic attacks over my life I am use to them which I NEVER thought would happen).  I have had three panic attacks while on klonopin which is more evidence of my tolerance.

Thanks for the reply, and please let me know how to find answers to many of these questions if there are loads of posts on them.

It most certainly is a hallmark of WDs, but keep in mind 90-110 isn't THAT high. Many people have tachycardia for unrelated reasons where their resting heart-rate is that high. Gastro pain has been a common symptom on my end as well. Once thing I've noticed, not sure if this will apply to you, but fluid intake/nutrients seem to help stabilize some of these symptoms, and during waves, my body sort of ignores hunger/thirst or doesn't experience it at all. If this is the case for you, I definitely would suggest trying to drink more fluids, make sure you are getting a lot of nutrients etc.

Thank you.  I will try that the next go around.

Having gone to the ER three times for Tachycardia, I can tell you that the more you check your pulse,

the faster it goes.    Mine is back down into the low 60s, after I quit worrying about it...
