Hi there.

I'm here to seek advice from people who spent a hard time trying to get off sleeping tabs, like Ambien and Zopiclone, as well as Mirtazapine, since my life has been terrible since i started taking these drugs 8 months ago.

I went off cold turkey from Ambien CR 12,5 mg (sold under the name of Stillnox CR here in Brazil) a while ago, but was unnable to deal with more than 3 weeks without a single night of good sleep. So i sought some relief in Zopiclone. I took 2 tabs (15mg) every night for 3 weeks untill yesterday, when i ran off of it...without any prescription for more. So i was basically forced to quit cold turkey again. However, my pdoc put me on 15mg of Mirtazapine, so i can get at least some hours of sleep.

Last night my sleep was so fragmented i did not feel rested at all when i woke up...right now i'm feeling exhausted, like i had no sleep at all.

I'm taking 500mg of valerian, camomile tea (2 bags) with honey and 1000mg of tryptophan. They're all helping me drift off, but i'm waking too many times overnight, as i stated above.

Hope to find some help here.

Thanks in advance.

Hello BrazilianInsomniac,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!

I'm sorry you are having trouble with sleep.  Stopping medications like ambien and zoplicone cold turkey is not recommended, it can bring on some severe withdrawal symptoms.  One of those is rebound insomnia, it sounds like you are experiencing that now. The problem with these types of drugs is that often it takes more and more to achieve the original effect.

The supplements you are taking I have read about here, many of our members have experience with them and will offer feedback to you.

Since you were taking sleeping medication for 8 months, it's going to take a while for your sleep cycle to normalize.

I'm going to give you a couple of links to get you started here. Please feel free to post questions here or on the various boards.  We're here to help and support you.
