Hear of it? Oh, yes. Or at least, something similar. I had a pdoc add Halcion in addition to my usual Klonopin. I was supposed to take the Halcion if the Klonopin didn't keep me asleep.

In hindsight, I know that was an incredibly irresponsible act on the part of the prescriber, and I  wouldn't recommend it at all. I ended up having two benzos to come off of.

That's really odd, b/c Halcion has a half life of just two hours. Some pdoc. :idiot: ~~Bets

I was prescribed a nightly dose of temazepam for sleep in addition to the xanax I took all day.  I couldn't tell you if it helped me sleep.

By the time it was prescribed, the damage had been done as evidenced by my sleeping issues.  I sensed this, but didn't address it and that was part of the damage that had been done.

It was just another pill I took.

I'd take a long hard look at adding another benzo.

Ahh, I see you've been around a while.  Sorry, I didn't check out your sig.

Well, the logic was xanax would help the anxiety and restoril had more sedating properties to help with sleep.

It's a game they play, sold to them by the drug companies to sell their product.  I thought the doc was trying to help me.  He was a smart guy in his 60's.  No way in hell he couldn't have known.

I was so out of my mind I was happy to try it.  Needed sleep, you know.  If I slept it must have been the new pill, that sort of thing.

Looking back that was a miserable way to live.

Unfortunately this is far from rare and it is irresponsible.  I was given clonazepam, was told to take valium and Tylenol for headaches and Ativan for break through panic attacks.  Both of those symptoms were caused by tolerance to the dose of clonazepam.  :idiot:  At least I didn't take the extra benzos although I had them available at my home.  Something inside me said this was very wrong.

I know it.  I honestly couldn't even believe what I was hearing.    I don't think most people would even consider this to be safe or logical.  Then again look at what these docs do.  It's insane.    I had a doc try the Ativan Temazepam route with me too during my Ativan taper.

Absolutely, klonopin and Xanax are prescribed together quite a bit here....was on both for a long time

How can you be functional on two different benzos???  Let alone the safety factor.    I know I know.  Sound like a broken record expecting to find some answer for the ridiculous way these things are prescribed.  I honestly think that these docs just switch gears when they know that the benzo is losing it's effectiveness.

There are people who are on two different benzos and two different opioid pain medications, high doses too, it's sad.  I functioned quite well on Xanax and klonopin but I would only take very small doses during the day.  I'm glad I'm not there anymore though

Man oh man. That's quite a combo. Two of the worst benzos out there. ~~ Bets

Yea, I didn't realize how bad that combo was until I went cold turkey....sickest I have ever been in my life including when I had a ruptured appendix, the withdrawal was worse.  It was mental but it was also very physical for me, I do believe the older you are, the harder it is and of course, being on some form of benzo since 1999 didn't help
