My first anxiety attack since tapering

Recommended Posts

I had my first anxiety attack since tapering. It wasn't too bad because I had a group of friends to talk me down.

What is sad is because it was an incredibly positive development out of the blue that triggered it.

A friend of mine is the associate chair of the English dept at a local university and a member of my Friday night scotch and cigar group. Out of the blue, he offered me a full assistantship to get my Masters in English.

As we were discussing it, another friend noticed my hands were shaking badly. As much as I tried to hide it, I was wigging out and they knew it.

They were very kind in helping me remain calm and the whole thing passed in about 25 minutes. It's the first full blown anxiety attack I've had since I started taking Xanax eight years ago. It brought back a lot of unpleasant memories.

I have a good problem to have. But I have to make this decision by Monday and I fear thinking it over is going to trigger another anxiety attack. That is not a good problem to have.

Sometimes the strangest things can set off an attack.  For me being in decisionland is harder than having made the decision.  It sounds like you have great friends.  I have had anxiety attacks in the middle of arguing a case and no one ever noticed.  I just keep going and it goes away - but that is when I am not in w/drawal.  To me it sounds like you will be fine - some deep breathing and  a trick my doctor taught me which helps use the b/room - and just put some cold water on your face and wrists - it helps.  It sounds like you have lots to look forward to.  You will be fine - mediate, yoga, exercise - all are great ways of dealing with anxiety.

If you continue to get them on a regular basis and they are very severe, you can always try BuSpar. It's both an anti anxiety and anti panic attack drug. And it's very safe to take and also easy to drop. ~~ Bets

I got my Masters in Nursing Education over the past few yrs while enduring benzo hell and tapering at it's worst (so far)...I was bedridden. So, it's doable, hard, but doable

Also, I use tapping for any sense of adrenaline or panic....works for me. Just YouTube videos of benzo wd tapping.
