Hospital

The insomnia is unrelenting. Even with Benadryl or Unisom I am not sleeping. We just moved to a new state so I don't have a primary care doc. Thinking of checking in to a hospital this afternoon. It's been 5 months of minimal (1-3 hrs) and zero hours sleep.

Can no longer function or think straight. This is breaking my body down.

Haven't checked in yet. Husband is unloading PODS and the kids are with me. Afraid all they will try to do is give me benzos or SSRIs and I don't want either of those.

Now what will you do? At first, I didn't get more than 2-3 hours of sleep per night for a year. Tried everything in the book and none of them worked. My pdoc was so concerned as I was a shell of myself. Couldn't even think or drive. So he put me on both Seroquel and Trazodone. If I took one or the other, it didn't help. But when I took both together, I began sleeping for 7-8 hours per night. Bets

It's your right to refuse benzos or any other type of medication that you're not comfortable with. Please be your own advocate and make sure you know exactly what they're giving you.

During my last hospitalization, my insomnia was so severe that I was non-responsive and that's when they added an extra 1mg K to what is now 2 mg K. Please spare yourself from unnecessary and/or prolonged tapering in the future by refusing anything you're uncomfortable with. They cannot force you to take Xanax or any other benzo, as I'm sure you know.

I hope you're doing okay. Stay safe.

Prescription Vistaril and Seroquel help for sleep, if I take only a small amount of it.  Dr's Best Magnesium helps me to calm down.  I only a small piece of the tablet and it helps at bedtime.  Can be had at most health food stores.

When I was losing it from total insomnia, I went to an urgent care where I was scolded for getting off my med because clearly I needed it, and was offered Xanax.  :-\. I saw a few people on here had success with hydroxyzine (generic Atarax), so I did get a prescription for that and it worked to get me a night of sleep.  I am a mom, too.  Going through this nightmare with kids is so hard.  I pray you get some sleep.  I know it seems so hard to believe now, but your sleep really will come back.  Hang in there.  You are strong, and you're going to make it!

Hydroxyzine works some nights and others it doesn't. My heart breaks for my kids--13 year old boy and 15 year old girl. Their mother is totally different (withdrawn, no emotions) and they--especially my son, are confused. My brother was here to help set up the house and he doesn't believe it's benzo withdrawal b/c tests (MRI, EEG) didn't show anything. I tried to explain they wouldn't show damage to GABA etc., but he doesn't believe me. He actually said maybe I've had a psychotic break and thinks I should go to a psycopharmacologist. I said never!

My husband and brother both say I am different, my kids see it, but they all want to blame it on psychological instead of physical issues. I would take back my severe anxiety any day over the damage from the benzos.

Yes, Misty, benzo w/d gives us new perspective on anxiety, unfortunately.  I'm sorry your family doesn't understand.  Would your husband be willing to read something like the Ashton Manual just to see that this is indeed physiological, not psychological?
