Suggestions on dose cutting.....

[To...]

Recommended Posts

Hi.... I recently did a sharp dose cut.  :-\

I was on 2.5 Xanax for three weeks, then cut to 1.5 for a couple of days. After this I cut to 1mg for a day. Then to .5 which I have been uncomfortably maintaining for 5 days so far. It has been problematic with feelings of fear, tightness in the head, feeling *distant* from reality, felling a bit sick and its hard to go out among people.

I really don`t think I`m ready to cut again but any suggestions on how recognize when to cut?

Thanks T  :-\

Definitely a rapid taper.  Seems like you're getting through it pretty well.  Maybe hold for a week, then jump.  No sense taking this junk any longer than necessary, and you didn't take it for very long.  Hopefully, you get through this very easily.

I think as badsocref has said, I'd hang on for a bit longer… Xanax is fast-acting and the symptoms tend to start resolving around day 3-5, so watch for some improvement soon.

:) Thank you both very much for the replies!

The terror`s seemed to have subsided and its become less intense in general. I took a long walk today for the first time since starting this taper. Symptoms seemed to be more physical now, headaches, upset stomach and dizzines... think its time to *jump*.

You are absolutely right... haven`t been on this stuff long and don`t want it in my system longer than I need. Just wanted some suggestions from others...  ;)

Thank you  :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hell everyone,

Not taken a benzo for about 14 days. Still feeling sick and panicky/nervous around people. Nervous when I`m out on my own. Still getting sweats and headaches.

I do feel that Im through the worst symptoms.

Thank you both for the support. I really feel for anyone who had to deal with this long term. I was a short term user and wouldn't want to ever repeat what I went through.

I'm glad you are over the hump. Good for you of getting rid of it so quickly. "I really feel for anyone who had to deal with this long term." That would be me hon. 20 years of daily usage. And still not even close to begin done after 1 year of tapering. Much too high on my dose.   Bets

Keep going Lady!

I hope I never have to take this stuff again. I can`t imagine how it feels to have to get off of this junk after years of use.

I do feel i`m over the hump but still uncomfortable.  :-X

Don`t give up

Well I don`t intend to Grinch..

Doctors in my adopted country hand out Xanax really easy. I got a hundred of them no problem. Im in my native country now and its very hard to get benzos here. BUT they have started handing out Lyrica and anti-depressants more freely.... I don't want them either!!!

Im going to request CBT to deal with my issues... Xanax scared the crap out of me. Got me through a very bad few weeks but the after effects are just not worth it.

So Grinch... no more psyche meds for me
