Be Kind to Ourselves

I am amazed at the true kindness that people show each other on this site. That is probably the biggest reason I log-in most days. Just reading people's gentle and thoughtful responses, especially the moderators, fills me with optimism. This is so important because I am incredibly hard on myself, and I see it so often in others here who are in the depths of withdrawal. It seems so natural to beat oneself up about benzo dependency. Guilt, shame, and self-loathing seem to dominate my life (even in my dreams, that is, when I actually am able to sleep). Sometimes I have a moment of clarity and realize that I am taking positive steps to change my life. We all are. These steps presents perhaps the biggest challenge many of us have ever met. Just for this reason alone, I think we all should remember how important it is to let go of the past and be kind to ourselves, as kind as we are to others.

You are so right seekingpeace. I read several books on forgiveness so that I would be able to let go of the guilt I felt, even though the doctor that helped me with my taper said I had nothing to feel guilty about. 

 

You are taking those positive steps so that you can live a healthy benzo free life.  What is important is taking care of yourself during this process and building that new future.
