Intense neuropathic pain after starting benzos?

Anyone experience agonizing neuropathic pain AFTER they began taking benzos?

 

My wife started diazepam 17 years ago to treat muscle spasms, but as the years wore on, neuropathic pain intensified to the point of being one of her most severe symptoms.  She's on low dose Neurontin and 19mg/day diazepam; the neuropathy seems to improve following dosages.  She's been dx'd with lyme disease, fibro, autoimmune, etc. etc, but I suspect the benzos are a key factor in the neurological issues. 

 

I guess a follow up to this is: if you had really bad neuropathy, did it improve as you lowered benzos and/or got off of them?
