Hi I have been going through Benzo withdrawal...I was taking Valium 10mg intermittently about 3 times a week and currently have been Valium free for 2-3 weeks. I have a tremor, insomnia, anxiety, tight muscles and red itchy spots on face and neck. Please help. Thanks.

Hi moviemajic, and welcome to BenzoBuddies!  We're glad you've found us, and you'll find a lot of information and support here.  Our members are happy to share their withdrawal experiences with others---and although withdrawal symptoms can be severe, they are only temporary.

Congratulations on getting off valium.  The symptoms you mention are all normal for being a few weeks benzo-free.  Here are a few links you'll find useful:

Post-Withdrawal Recovery Support.

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!

Hello moviemajic,

Welcome to the forum from me too  :)

Congratulations on being benzo free!

How long were you taking the valium and did you taper off it? I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so much but as Megan said this isn't unusual. At 3 weeks benzo free you will, almost certainly, be in the acute stage of withdrawal where symptoms are at their strongest. The strong symptoms will ease with time and eventually peter out as you begin to recover but it can take a little while for the central nervous system to heal fully.

I will give you a link to a post created by one of the members here, Parker which I think will help to give you a better understanding of exactly what is involved with a full recovery after long term benzo use and why it can take many months for some. Here is a link to "What is happening in your brain"

All of the symptoms you are describing sound withdrawal related and all are common bt if you would like feedback about these or any other symptoms, please feel free to post questions on The Post-Withdrawal Recovery support board, Megan has given you a link to it.

I'm glad you fouund us and I wish you a speedy recovery.
